Our People
Grower Direct evolved out of a back-of-the-car, flowers-by-the-fistful venture started in 1986 by a restless young systems analyst, antique clock collector and entrepreneur named Skip Kerr.
Skip credits his partner from the early years, Bill Hustler, for helping to convince him that the core Grower Direct system was worth growing.
From the beginning Skip and his favourite front end flower merchant, Caren Kerr his wife, took the view that the company would only be as good as the people who helped form it.
Which is why they are so proud ...
- that so many of their original franchisees are still with the company
- of the people they have found to expand the Grower Direct system
- that individual store owners are so good at finding employees who can help customers realize the Grower Direct advantage
- of the company's Home Office staff.
Here is a little bit about our senior management
Skip Kerr - Our Founder
Skip Kerr was the original one-man band and a cog in a corporate wheel. Two decades ago, he identified a huge opportunity in the distribution and sale of cut flowers in Canada. Skip took the leap, and the direction was fast forward! Skip is now retired and spends time with his family, and of course his collection of antique clocks (another one of his passions).
